In celebration of Earth Week, Bruce Power has partnered with the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre to offer a FREE digital field trip for students to learn from local experts who will share their knowledge of water, soil and wildlife.
“We are excited to partner with the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre on this fun and informative program,” said Danielle LaCroix, Bruce Power’s Director of Environment and Sustainability. “Students will get to learn about the local environment and the ways humans have affected Bruce County ecosystems in the last 200 years.”
Through a series of video interviews featuring photos from the Bruce County Archives that connect to the interview locales, the program connects directly to the biodiversity strand of the Grade 6 science curriculum, and draws connections and suggests activities that can be used in Social Studies, as well as Grade 7 and 8 History and Geography.
“The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre has been partnering with Bruce Power to bring environmental programming to schools across Bruce County for several years,” says Cathy McGirr, Director, Museum & Cultural Services, Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre. “We are pleased to be able continue this programming in a new virtual format which has the potential for even more students across the region to participate.”
Starting Monday, April 19, a video interview will be released each day until Earth Day on April 22. Along with each interview, the video will demonstrate an activity students can do in class or at home to better understand an environmental concept or help out the environment. Also on April 22, the Museum will host a virtual panel discussion featuring the interview guests and allowing students to ask questions.
