Close-contact staff and students of Macphail elementary school isolating

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is working with Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) to address a probable case of COVID-19 associated with Macphail Memorial Elementary School in Flesherton, Ontario.

A probable case is defined as an individual having a direct link with a positive COVID-19 case, who is experiencing symptoms and has not been tested.

While there is a probable case associated with the school, Public Health’s assessment, to date, indicates the transmission did not take place within the school environment. Currently, there are no outbreaks; that is, evidence of transmission from person to person, in any schools or childcare centres, in Grey Bruce. No bus routes of any schools are involved with this case.

All staff and students that have had close contact with the affected probable case of COVID-19 have been notified by Public Health and are isolating. Anyone NOT contacted by Public Health already, is not considered at risk and need not take any additional steps including asymptomatic testing.

“I thank the with Bluewater District School Board officials and staff for the optimal collaboration, and I thank our staff for the very thorough and efficient response,” says Dr. Ian Arra, Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer.
