The annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament is just around the corner on July 20th at Saugeen Golf Club.
The tournament initiated and hosted by the Rotary Club of Port Elgin, is in support of Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and bears the name of Jeff Preston, PhD and professor of Media Studies, who lives with MD.
Over the 23 years since inception, the tournament has raised more than $1.3 Million for research, in part, because of celebrity support, matching grants and local community support.
This year, the Live Auction on July 20th, will feature signed hockey sweaters by Kurtis MacDermid of the Los Angeles Kings, Jake DeBrusk of the Boston Bruins and Robert Thomas of Team Canada World Juniors 2018 Gold medal champions and a Toronto Maple Leaf Mitch Marner sweater.
The tournament is an entire day of fun and camaraderie with BBQ and food throughout the day and dinner in the evening following 18 holes of golf.
Jesse’s Journey has also played a key role in the annual tournament as it has matched every dollar raised at the Tournament. John Davidson founded Jesse’s Journey in honour of his son Jesse who died of Duchenne’s MD. This year, 2018, marks the 20th Anniversary of Davidson’s walk across Canada in 1998 during which he raised $2 Million for research. “We all want to make a difference,” says Davidson.
