Located on French Bay Road at Saugeen First Nation, what was once an old schoolhouse that housed snakes, is now a modern library and resource centre that melds the old with the new.
Funding for the new expansion was received under the Federal 150th Infrastructure Program, from Saugeen Band, an Eva Leflar Literacy grant and from Bruce Power.
Chief Lester Anoguot officially opened the centre on Tuesday (May 15/18) and said that the new expansion will provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the resources that will be available. “It’s thanks to the partnerships that enabled this expansion to move forward.”
Librarian Melissa Root who headed up the expansion project points out that the Family Reading Program is increasing literacy in the community. “We are now waiting for all our new shelving to come in but, in the meantime, the centre is now open to everyone.”

There is also a large wrap-around deck where people can sit and read or just watch the children play in the adjacent playground. With an extended ramp, the centre is also completely accessible for everyone.
