The Christmas Child Shoebox Program through Samaritan’s Purse was an overwhelming success said Bruce County organizer Joyce Scammell.
“We have collected an incredible 6,000 boxes,” said Scammell. From Wiarton, Hepworth, Sauble Beach, Tara, Paisley, Port Elgin, Southampton, Tiverton, Kincardine and all places in between, shoeboxes were filled and than transported to Port Elgin’s Shoreline Baptist Church collection centre.
Several businesses and businesses in Saugeen Shoes opened their doors for Operation Christmas Child wher boxes could be picked up and dropped off.
Volunteers and drivers picked up the ‘avalanche’ of boxes at Shoreline Baptist Church on Sunday, November 19th, for delivery to the Hanover Missionary Church where they will then travel by train to the processing centre in Calgary. From Calgary, they will be packed up for their long journey to children in Ukraine, Philippines, West Africa and Central America.
Since 1993, more than 209 million children in more than 170 countries have received an Operation Christmas Child Shoebox filled with gifts.
