Due to increasing use, and in line with launch ramp common practices, the Municipality of Kincardine is implementing a “Pay per Use” system for the Launch Ramp. The Kincardine launch ramp is one of the few launch ramps that does not charge for usage; charging for the usage of launch ramps, is a common practice in many surrounding harbours and marinas.
Jayne Jagelewski, Director of Community Services, commented that, “In the past 10 years, considerable work and expense has been required to maintain the launch ramp. Additional work will be required this year due to receding water levels.”
For the 2022 season, users will be charged $10 (+HST) per day or $50 (+HST) per season. Fees will not be charged for existing slip permits as well as launch use during the Fishing Derby to support the work of the Lake Huron Fishing Club and their initiatives; the Chantry Chinook Classic runs July 23 to August 7, 2022.
Funds collected through the pilot program will be reflected in the Kincardine Marina’s budget and available for ongoing launch ramp maintenance.
Jagelewski says the program will be “evaluated throughout the summer to determine the feasibility of a permanent solution to maintain the launch ramp.”
