Local team attends provincial ROMA conference

A small team from the Municipality of Kincardine is attending this week’s Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference in Toronto. A branch of the Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO), the ROMA conference is annual event with focus upon rural municipal issues.

Representing the Municipality are Mayor Kenneth Craig, Councillor Doug Kennedy, and Chief Administrative Officer Jillene Bellchamber-Glazier. The team of three will have an opportunity to learn, network, and discuss municipal issues while attending the three-day event which began on Sunday, January 22nd.

“ROMA is one of the premier events for rural municipal leaders to attend,” says Bellchamber-Glazier. “We have the opportunity to network with our peers, hear how they are tackling issues similar to our own, and connect with provincial leaders.”

Mayor Craig also sees the event as a great opportunity to align their participation with direction they’ve already received from master plans and motions during their first months as a council.

“We can advocate directly to provincial leaders and connect with other municipalities. We can address rural health care issues, demonstrate support for the nuclear sector, and promote our area for development opportunities. These are foundational steps for our municipality,” says Craig.

Multiple delegations booked over the three-day period are set to discuss activities that aim to address the goals cited by Mayor Craig. In addition, activities and presentations will bring a diverse learning experience for all attendees.

Bellchamber-Glazier adds that “we’re looking forward to having a very productive time here at ROMA and bringing back news of our efforts.
