The Kincardine Trails volunteer group is celebrating 25 years of connecting residents and visitors with nature through a trail network spanning approximately 42 kilometres.

What began with a community meeting initiated by local resident Brad Kirkconnell in 2001 has grown into an extensive network of trails, thanks to the dedication of volunteers working alongside the Municipality of Kincardine.
Long-time volunteers Brad Kirkconnell and Dave Lafortune reflected on the journey and the
unique experiences the trails offer, from waterfront boardwalks and scenic riverfront paths to wooded trails and ravines. The network provides opportunities to enjoy nature throughout the seasons, while remaining close to downtown and residential neighbourhoods.
Beyond hiking and other recreational activities, the trails bring the community together through events such as the Tour of Kincardine, the 7K Trail Challenge and Spooky Trails, held this past weekend.
Celebrating Volunteers:
For 25 years, volunteers have played an important role in developing and caring for
Kincardine’s trail network. The Municipality of Kincardine extends its sincere appreciation to all Kincardine Trails volunteers, past and present, whose time, knowledge and dedication have helped make the trails a valued community asset.
“Kincardine’s trails provide residents and visitors with valuable opportunities to enjoy the
outdoors, connect with nature and experience our community in every season. The dedication of volunteers over the past 25 years has played an important role in shaping that experience, and we appreciate the time and care they continue to contribute,” said Michel Di Giovanni, Manager of Parks and Facilities for the Municipality of Kincardine.
Special recognition goes to Brad Kirkconnell, whose vision and leadership helped bring the
community together 25 years ago to connect informal pathways and establish a lasting
foundation for the trail network. The Municipality also recognizes Dave Lafortune for his
continued leadership and contributions, along with the many volunteers who have helped
shape the trails over the years.
Looking Ahead: As the trail network marks this milestone, the Municipality is undertaking work on a new Trails Master Plan to help guide its future. The planning process will consider the network’s long-term direction and opportunities for future trail use in the community.
The continued involvement of volunteers will remain central to Kincardine’s trails. The
volunteer group also welcomes individuals interested in contributing to trail-related activities, including maintenance, communications and coordination.
