Bruce Power, in recognizing and showing its appreciation for the incredible work being done by health and long-term care workers in local communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, delivered 550 care packages this week to seven facilities across Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Owen Sound and Wiarton.
Administrators at Kincardine Hospital, Southampton Hospital, the Chippewas of Nawash Health Centre, the Mino Bimaadsawin Health Centre at Saugeen First Nation, Trillium Court senior community in Kincardine, Maple View long-term care facility in Owen Sound, and Southampton Care Centre received the packages for distribution to their staffs. Each package includes a gift card for a local restaurant and a bottle of hand sanitizer that Bruce Power has acquired with the backing of supply chain partners, businesses, unions and community groups.
“These packages are a way for us to say thank you and to recognize health-care workers in our communities for their commitment, compassion and care,” said Mike Rencheck, President and Chief Executive Officer. “During this health crisis, physicians, nurses, specialists, administration, maintenance staff and other front-line workers at our health-care facilities have been at their very best in looking after our families, friends and fellow residents.”
This week, the company has distributed bottles of hand sanitizer to employees at health-care facilities and other organizations – including hospitals, health units, county offices, community living organizations and long-term care facilities – throughout Grey, Bruce and Huron counties. Bruce Power, with the help of supply-chain partners and community organization, has purchased the hand sanitizer from Junction 56 Distillery and is being supported by Three Sheets Brewing in Port Elgin with packing and distribution of the bottles.
Bruce Power’s hand-sanitizer initiative has received funding support from BWXT Canada, Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW), ES Fox, GE Canada, Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO), Nu-tech, Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS), Power Workers’ Union, the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario and Westinghouse Electric Canada Inc.
Fifteen community groups have also thrown their support behind the program by redirecting their 2020 sponsorship funding from Bruce Power. They are: Artful Hands (Ripley), Books in the Bruce, Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board, Bluewater Education Foundation, Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund, Grey Bruce One World Festival, Hepworth Anglers, Horse Friends of Saugeen Bluffs, Kincardine Pride, Kincardine Women’s Triathlon, Liv-A-Little (Port Elgin), Midwestern Ontario Rotary Music Festival, Skills Canada – Ontario, Town of Saugeen Shores, and We Care Grey Bruce.
