Canadian Big Band Celebration to take a short set break

It is with heaviness of heart that the Canadian Big Band Celebration (CBBC) committee has made the decision to take a short Set Break for 2020, and focus on coming back next fall, with a tentative date of September 17-19, 2021.

Canadian Big Band Celebration is a 3-day weekend held each September in Saugeen Shores, full of musical events, starting with jazz and blues artists at local venues (restaurants, pubs, legions) that you can wander between at will on the Friday night.

On Saturday, in the afternoon, there are the Canadian Big Band and guest vocalists. This music is reminiscent of the many Dance Pavilions back in the 1970s and 80s, once located in Oliphant, Sauble, Port Elgin, Kincardine and other communities along the Lake Huron coastline. In the evening on Saturday, Lulu’s Roadhouse Band and guests keep everyone dancing. All of this listening and dancing cumulates on Sunday of the weekend with a lavish brunch and a small jazz ensemble.

Covid-19 has set everyone and everything back and CBBC is working on making the best decisions with the information out there at this time.

Charles Bell, Chair of CBBC, was emphatic in his message, “We cannot state enough how much we appreciate the continued support of sponsors and participants of CBBC and the heritage of the dance halls, and their music, that once dotted the Lake Huron shoreline.”

Bell continues, “We will be posting updates on our Facebook page and our website at www.canadianbigband.com and hope you will hang in there with us as we move forward through this year and into the next. Keep those dancing shoes nearby as Canadian Big Band Celebration gears up for 2021!”
