‘Celebrity Cyclists’ are ready to hit the road in this year’s 2019 Gran Fondo Lake Huron fundraiser for Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The event is the second annual Gran Fondo, where more than 700 cyclists took part in the 2018 fundraiser. With four routes of varying distances from 30km, 70km and 110km to 160km, the event is a non-race but simply a test of individual endurance while fundraising for local health care.
This year, there will be six Celebrity Cyclists from a wide variety of fields:
- Bharath Nangia – President and CEO of NPX – a nuclear innovation start-up headquartered in Kincardine Bruce County
- Brian Longmire – morning host on 98theBeach radio
- Josh Hopkin – Defense for the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks and student of Recreation and Leisure at the University of Waterloo
- Nathan Perrott from Owen Sound – Bruce Power firefighter
- Darryl Spector – President of Promation Nuclear Ltd, a long-standing Engineering and custom equipment supplier to Bruce Power, Ontario Power Generation, and other Nuclear customers for over a decade
- Josh Cassidy – Canadian Paralympian

Nathan Perrott challenges the Saugeen Shores Fire Dept. to put in a team for the Gran Fondo and fundraise
Josh Hopkins challenges other local sports teams and any WOAA hockey teams to put together a team to ride in the Gran Fondo

Bharath Nangia – I challenge Darryl Spector and the team at Promation Nuclear to beat the NPX fundraising total. Promation also has a team that is very engaged in the community and committed to giving back. Promation and NPX have worked together in the past to support local organizations, such as the Kincardine Kinectic Knights. Darryl may have more experience as a rider in the Gran Fondo, but I know that our team will bring $$$$$!
