Chantry Chinook Classic Derby volunteers held a BBQ fundraiser at Rowland’s Independent Grocer in Port Elgin on Saturday, June 30th

The Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby is celebrating its 35th Anniversary and is about to kick off with its first official Derby event – the Sponsor/Media day on Friday, July 6th. The date is also Ontario Family Fishing Week, a license-free week to experience the joy of fishing without the need to purchase a license.

The Derby runs for 16 days from Saturday, July 28th to Sunday, August 12 with several ‘special’ events, such as Kids Day and Ladies Day, throughout.

Participants are required to purchase an entry at $30 for singles and $70 for a family, in order to qualify their catch(es).

There are several rules and regulations that include fishing takes place in Lake Huron and Georgian Bay in specified areas and, in addition, fish can only be weighed in at the official weigh stations in Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Pike Bay and Wiarton at specific times.
