Ben Lobb, Member of Parliament for Huron–Bruce is pleased to announce the 9th annual Clinton Minor Baseball Camp and the 6th annual Kincardine Minor Baseball Camp are scheduled to return this July to offer local youth affordable, valuable baseball instruction.
Returning to headline the baseball camps this year is former Kansas City Royal, Willie Wilson. This is the third time that Wilson will visit Huron–Bruce to instruct the baseball camps organized by Lobb.
Wilson is a former professional baseball player whose career spanned nineteen years in Major League Baseball for The Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, and The Chicago Cubs. He was an outfielder known for his speed and ability as an effective lead off hitter. Wilsons career total of 668 stolen basis currently ranks him in 12th place all time among major leaguers.
He is a two-time all star in 1982 and 1983, World Series Champion in 1985, Gold Glove award in 1980, a 2-time silver slugger award 1980,1982, AL batting champion 1982, AL stolen base leader 1979, Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame.
In 1980, he led the league in hits, runs scored, triples and singles, and finished second in steals with 79. He won both the gold glove and silver slugger awards and was fourth in the AL MVP voting his best finish.
The annual summer camps for local youth started when Lobb noticed that baseball was making a comeback in Huron–Bruce. Having grown up playing baseball in Clinton and having played throughout his time at university, Lobb was, and still is, passionate about fostering its growth among local youth, and encouraging their skills development and leadership. In 2012, he hosted the inaugural Clinton Minor Baseball Camp. Every year he has been able to secure community sponsors to make the camp affordable so that all kids who wish to participate have the opportunity to do so.
“I am excited to share my passion for a great sport with the youth in Huron–Bruce again this year with an accessible and impactful two-day camp,” said Lobb. “These camps are only possible with-the generous support of local sponsors, minor baseball associations and the community,” he added.
This year’s camps will run July 10 and 11 at the Clinton Community Ball Park, and July 12 and 13 at Connaught Park in Kincardine. The camps are open to boys and girls ages 7-15, and the cost for the 2-day camps is just $75.
