Director of Education accepts position at St. Michael’s College School

The Director of Education for the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board, Jamie McKinnon, has been appointed Principal of St. Michael’s College School. St. Michael’s is a private Basilian Catholic School in Toronto with a legacy of excellence in Catholic Education in Ontario since its opening in 1852.

Mr. McKinnon has been with the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School board for the past four years and has lead the board through a continued period of growth and innovative programming, supporting student achievement. A particular focus of the work has been in developing inquiry and problem solving skills using Design Thinking as a tool across the curriculum. This, connected to innovative classroom environments and technology to support learning for the future that reflects Catholic social teaching, continues to be a focus of the work at the Catholic School Board.

“It is with very mixed emotions that I move on from one of the most nimble, innovative and compassionate school systems in the province. From my very first visit here I experienced nothing but welcoming communities who care for the well being of their people and have high expectations for the future and for the success of each and every student.”

Chair of the Board Bev Eckensweiler expresses her thanks to Jamie for the work he has done at Bruce-Grey CDSB. “We will miss Jamie’s passion and dedication, his deep commitment to the constant striving for excellence, and his strong faith that is at the root of all that he does. We wish him well in his new position at St. Michael’s College, and thank him for his considerable contributions to public funded Catholic Education throughout his career.”

Jamie looks forward to bringing his passion for life long learning, innovation, problem solving, and being future focused to the challenges and opportunities at St. Michael’s College School.

“It is a privilege, honour and worthy challenge to join the leadership and legacy of an institution that has influenced Catholic education in Canada and the world since 1852. I look forward to meeting and working along side those who make up the community that is St. Michael’s College School.“

Mr. McKinnon’s tenure with the Board will end July 31st. The Board will begin a search for its next Director of Education immediately.
