As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the current landscape and plans for the coming months, the Municipality of Kincardine, in coordination with the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band Executive, has made the difficult decision to cancel the weekly Pipe Band Parades this summer season, as well as the 29th Annual Gathering of the Bands Festival, of which the band plays an integral part in as organizers.
The KSPB Executive met Monday evening (June 1) to discuss further and have provided an official statement as to their desired path forward for the summer of 2020:
“As the Province of Ontario prepares to open up in phases, out of the interest of public health and safety it is apparent that the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band is unable to continue this summer with traditional Saturday Night Parades as well as this, our 29th Annual Gathering of the Bands. With that in mind, we plan work along-side the Municipality to monitor the ongoing situation and evaluate opportunities for the Phantom Piper to play atop the Lighthouse sometime during this summer. Furthermore, we would be open to entertaining other potential venues where we can guarantee the health and safety of our members and the public at large.”
