The ‘Gran Fondo’ Rotary ‘Turn Bruce Blue’ challenge winning business display award went to Cooks Cupboard on High Street in Southampton.
The award, given for the best ‘blue’ display of products and cycle-themed merchandise, was for a $250 Marketing voucher from PRG (Progressive Results Group).
Southampton Rotary Club partnered with the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation to “paint Bruce Blue” to promote the Gran Fondo in Bruce County.
The Challenge was for businesses, organizations and homeowners to create a blue window display and apparel racks, offer blue hair streaks and nails in salons, offer blue-plate specials or highlight a blue specialty drink and have a blue denim day for offices and workplaces.
Over 30 entrants posted photos, videos and messages on social media using the hashtag #BlueBruce and a panel of Rotarians and PRG representatives then selected the winning entry. In further promotion, Southampton Rotary painted and displayed 25 blue bicycles along the Gran Fondo cycling route.
The Gran Fondo (Big Cycle Race) fundraiser raised more than $134,000 for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation. The Foundation is one of five that supports the group of six hospitals in Grey Bruce and monies raised will go toward equipment for the Southampton hospital site and for the regional hospital in Owen Sound for shared services such as the new MRI.
