House fire in Kincardine proves to be fatal

Municipality of Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services from both Kincardine and Tiverton stations responded to a residential fire on Whippoorwill Lane in Kincardine on Friday, November 24th, 2023. Initial reports indicated there was fire visible within the structure and that an occupant was inside.

The first teams on scene activated Mutual Aid resulting in four fire stations from three municipalities involved in response efforts.

Heavy smoke and fire prevented initial entry efforts. Crews made a concerted effort to knock down the fire allowing access to the structure and a subsequent search of the premises. As a result, responders located one occupant of the single-family home deceased. The victim’s identity is being withheld until notification of family.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is to be determined. The Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) is investigating the cause and circumstances.

“We can confirm that a person was found deceased at the scene, and per standard procedure the Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted,” said Deputy Fire Chief Ron Simmons. “The investigation is ongoing. At this time, I would like to extend condolences to the family and friends of the victim on behalf of the Municipality of Kincardine’s Fire and Emergency Services.”

Simmons also thanked the first responders for their efforts on the scene.
