The Municipality of Kincardine Mayor issued a public statement on April 6th regarding the Code of Conduct that Councillors are expected to maintain.
“Municipal Councillors are expected to uphold respectful behaviour in our interactions and adhere to a high standard of ethics, given the principles of integrity and accountability that underlie our elected positions.
On February 7, all members of the Municipality of Kincardine Council recommitted to honouring our Code of Conduct which states that all members of council have a duty to treat one another with respect and ‘without abuse, bullying or intimidation, and to ensure that the work environment is free from discrimination and harassment’.
On April 4, there were unacceptable comments made at the Municipality of Kincardine Council meeting.
I have filed a formal complaint with the Integrity Commissioner who will determine if a member of council has breached Code of Conduct.
The Integrity Commissioner has informed us that the ruling on this matter will be expedited. The results of this review will be shared at an upcoming special public Council meeting.
I ask the public for patience while the matter is before the Integrity Commissioner.”
