Local entrepreneurs make a pitch on Dragons’ Den

Kincardine and Fergus residents, Trevor Aitchison and Andy Spears, were recently selected to appear on an episode of Dragons’ Den that aired on October 16th on CBC and CBC Gem, CBC’s free streaming service.

Aitchison and Spears began ‘Waddies – Canada’s Ultimate Tossing Game‘, four years ago.  The fun tossing game can be played inside or outside and by anyone, making it the Ultimate Tossing Game made in Canada for Canada. It is a skill-based game that involves  throwing a rubber puck onto a wooden board. You can play it for fun or competitively in tournaments and leagues that have now been started in Southwestern Ontario.

“We have sold thousands of Waddies sets across Canada and the USA,” says Aitchison, “and we are excited to have been featured on this iconic Canadian show on CBC.”

Aitchson adds that he is grateful for all the support he’s received in his hometown. “Launching a business is no small task. No matter how big an idea you think you have, it still takes a lot of work and a ton of cash.”

That’s where Dragons’ Den comes in. Aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their business concepts and products to a panel of Canadian business moguls who have the cash and the know-how to make it happen. They’ve all been there themselves, so pitchers better not enter the Den unprepared. It takes more than passion to convince these boardroom barons that an idea is worth their investment. The Dragons are ruthless and rightly so – it’s their own personal money on the line.
