Many hands get Downtown Kincardine back to business

Sidewalks and businesses reopened in downtown Kincardine June 7th, after 11 businesses were heavily vandalized in the early morning hours of June 6th.

The news was quick to spread throughout the community yesterday, with many quick to offer a helping hand to clean things up. The efforts allowed all businesses to open this morning, June 7th.

“We want to thank the many contractors, volunteers, business owners, employees, Lavis Contracting, and municipal staff who were quick to offer a hand in getting our downtown cleaned up,” said Cherie Leslie, Community Economic Development Coordinator.

Leslie, who was downtown herself assisting where possible, continued: “It was a tough day, but Kincardine comes together when needed most. What an incredible example of community spirit.”

For those who would like to help the businesses, the best thing to do is go downtown to shop.

“Come downtown to shop, eat, and explore,” said Amanda Goetz, Downtown Development Manager for the Lakeside Downtown Kincardine BIA. “Our businesses need your support, through this incident and the construction project.”

Goetz points to their Downtown Dig Shop and Dine Passport and their Lakeside Live Summer Music Series. “There’s lots to do in the heart of our community this summer. We’re open for business and can’t wait to see you.”

South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) are laying 11 counts of mischief against the individual arrested at the scene. The accused is set to appear in court in Walkerton to answer to the charges.
