As Mayor, I want to speak to all our residents and visitors in the Municipality of Kincardine. The next two weeks are a very crucial time to flatten out the curve in our fight against COVID-19. I strongly support the March 26th recommendation of our local medical officer of health, Dr. Ian Arra which is … “We need everyone to stop non-essential travel going outside of Grey Bruce counties as well as into Grey Bruce.”
If our local residents know any seasonal cottagers or other visitors who normally come to the Municipality of Kincardine and other Grey Bruce areas, please ask them to stay home until this crisis is over.
Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, and Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, have also given this message over the past week.
We are a rural area which does not have the health care capacity to handle the possible surge related to the COVID-19 crisis or the essential business stocking capability at this time. After the crisis is over, we will welcome all of our visitors back again in true Kincardine style.
Dr. Ian Arra says, “As there is a provincial Declaration of Emergency and several municipalities in Bruce and Grey Counties, have also declared an emergency. The MOH, Dr. Arra, is strongly recommending against all non-essential travel to and from Bruce and Grey Counties.” Dr. Arra is recommending this to protect the health and safety of all Grey Bruce residents and visitors. Every social interaction that does not take place will help in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 and in turn prevent spreading the virus to vulnerable groups, including older adults and people with pre-existing health conditions.
