New collection of Discovery Backpacks easy-to-borrow at Bruce County libraries

Bruce County Public Library (BCPL) is introducing a new collection of Discovery Backpacks to help children learn through reading, play and hands-on exploration.

Designed for children ages 4 to 9, Discovery Backpacks bring together books and activities on a specific topic in one easy-to-borrow package. Families can borrow a backpack from any BCPL Branch for up to three weeks.

Each backpack encourages children to explore a topic in different ways. By combining books with activities, the backpacks make learning fun and engaging while supporting literacy development.

“Discovery Backpacks help kids to learn through reading, creativity and play,” said Director, Library Services, Brooke McLean. “We have 60 backpacks for families to explore, each with a different theme. It’s a great way to inspire learning, curiosity and conversation at home.”

The collection includes a wide range of themes reflecting children’s interests and experiences. Some topics include grief, nature, space, diverse families, and fire safety, just to name a few.

The Discovery Backpack collection is possible thanks to the support of a $5,000 grant from Community Foundation Grey Bruce.

Families can explore the collection and reserve a backpack through the online catalogue at library.brucecounty.on.ca or visit their local Branch to learn more.
