To mark the beginning of Pride Month, the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre will host an LGBTQ2+ Equality Presentation on June 3rd, the opening event for its month-long Pride Film Festival.
The presentation will feature a panel of guest speakers from within the community, including Kincardine Pride organizer Fort Papalia, and will be moderated by the Museum’s own Evan Vatri (Program Coordinator).
“I am honoured to be a part of BCM&CC’s Pride Month Panel,” says Papalia. “It is the first such opportunity in our area where LGBTQ2+ and allies can come together to share ideas and perspectives on past events, present conditions and focuses for the future, especially in our rural area which has a history of limited resources and opportunities for 2SLGBTQ+ people and their families.”
The event will run from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and will include a question period. Cash bar and light refreshments will be available.
The LGBTQ2+ Film Festival will run throughout the month of June in the Museum’s Bruce Power Theatre and feature a Pride-friendly selection of movies—from coming-of-age classics that address Queer identity politics, to the well-loved, Drag-a-licious romp through Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s mad mansion, and more. General admission applies.
In collaboration with the Bruce County Public Library, the Museum’s new Book Nook will also be on display through June and will feature a curation of reads with LGBTQ2+ themes for all ages that can be loaned with the use of a local library card.
