Forecast precipitation, warmer temperatures and the associated trace snowmelt, and saturated ground conditions will result in elevated water levels across the Saugeen River watershed over the next few days.
Rain is forecast to develop into Wednesday and continue through the night. Total amounts of 15 to 20 mm are expected. Warm temperatures and saturated soils will cause the trace melting snow to run-off quickly to local watercourses, compounded by precipitation.
While significant flooding is not expected, rivers could reach or exceed banks full conditions, with minor flooding in traditional low-lying areas. More extensive flooding is possible should the region receive rainfall amounts greater than what are currently forecast. Stream flows are expected to peak on the smaller to medium-sized watersheds late Wednesday, and Thursday by noon or evening on the larger rivers.
Municipal and County staff should monitor problem areas and prepare to close low-lying roads.
Residents are reminded to stay away from all watercourses. The cold water, combined with slippery and unstable stream banks, will create hazardous conditions near all waterways.
This message will remain in effect until 11:00 am on Friday, November 19th, 2021, unless local conditions warrant further updates. Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) will continue to monitor watershed conditions.
For Municipalities along the shore of Lake Huron sustained winds from the west of moderate strength are forecast late Thursday November 18, 2021 into Friday November 19, 2021. While Lake Huron Levels have receded compared to 2020 levels, known erosion areas and flood prone areas along the shoreline may become more active with the forecast. Municipal staff are recommended to monitor problem areas into Friday with forecast conditions.
