Progressive Agricultural Days: Dianne Atkinson hosted in Teeswater with attendance of 69 , Tiverton had 94 children and Walkerton with a small group of 41. She has been a coordinator for seven years, and a co-coordinator with Linda Freiberger for three years before that.
The program began as strictly farm safety and large equipment safety but it was quickly recognized that other areas in children’s lives need attention to teach them how to live safe and healthy. So we teach them about everything from sun safety, proper hydration in extreme conditions, water safety since we live on the lake and fire safety including an escape plan and safe meeting places when you do escape. I have put together or have access to 45 different subjects of safety that we teach them in a fun, interactive way. So, in essence it is a play as you learn environment for them. We always keep the element of farm safety in the mix for the rural children attending as there are always things happening on the farm everyday.
We gave them healthy snacks in the morning and afternoon along with lunch, they also received a t-shirt and a goody bag to take home with them.
It was a great day for all of us.

Special thanks to Teeswater Agricultural Society, Mary Lou, Ruthanne, Gerri and “BBQ” Carl from the Kinsmen for preparing the lunch in Teeswater. As well as Marilyn Virtue and Anne Marie Gomes for looking after a hungry bunch in Tiverton. In Walkerton we had the talents of Morgan Inglis, Rob McKee and Ashley Young preparing our lunch and snacks. To all the group leaders in Teeswater, Tiverton and Walkerton, Karen, Jenny, Jen Kathy, Linda, Josiee, Sophia, Gary and all the others that gave a helping hand. Thank you to the Bright Beginnings Day Care – Tiverton, Municipality of South Bruce Summer Camp, and the younger half of Municipality of Brockton Summer Camp for joining our day and enjoying it. Most of all to the parents of all the children that signed up and attended this year’s event, thank you so much for allowing the children to learn to be safer in all their everyday activities. Without all this great community support and help these Progressive Agriculture Safety Days would not be. It is the many hands that come together to make such a great day for all the children involved.

Not to mention THE RESURECTION OF SHIVERTON! TIVERTON’S TOUR OF TERROR! What is this tour of Terror you may ask? Think Christmas or garden tour of homes meets Halloween! * suggest 12+ for the Tour of Terror in the evening(s)
Little Blue House Coffee Co. is now serving ice cream and with all this hot weather it couldn’t have come any sooner. It’s been so nice to sit outside with a coffee and donut. By the way, what is the proper way to spell donut? Doughnut or Donut. Let me know.
Huron Shores Hospice: is currently seeking caring and compassionate individuals to join its team as Comfort Care Volunteers. Comfort Care Volunteers work as part of the interdisciplinary hospice care team by providing comfort care measures to the residents and families utilizing the residential hospice. This volunteer opportunity aims to support residents and families in both emotional and practical ways while promoting a home-like environment. Volunteers may spend their time reminiscing, reading to the resident, providing emotional support to the family, tidying the suite, providing non-medical comfort care measures, or simply being close by if anything is needed. There are morning, afternoon, and evening shifts daily.
All volunteers will receive hospice orientation and access to required training and must have police and reference checks completed before spending time with our residents.
