UBC Local 2222 sent a number of members to Peel Region on Tuesday, June 1 st to volunteer at the CAA Centre in Brampton, ON, alongside Bruce Power and other Business/Labour partners. Local 2222 Union Coordinator Ryan Plante says, “It’s important for our members to contribute and make an impact in the community. Although this was outside our geographical area, this was a perfect opportunity for us to partner with Bruce Power and give back in a meaningful way.”
“The Peel Hockey Hub is providing needed vaccination capacity in a key area of the province. The leadership of a range of business and labour partners to support this with Peel Public Health has been instrumental and the support of UBC Local 2222 has been important to get this operation up and running,” James Scongack, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Operational Services at Bruce Power.
Local 2222 members, along with members from affiliate Locals, were responsible for prescreening attendees, assisting with registration and ensuring proper flow and organization throughout the day. With their help, the vaccination clinic was able to see over two thousand five hundred people.
“The most rewarding part of the day was knowing that we contributed to the delivery of over 2500 vaccines helping in the fight against Covid-19. In addition, seeing the gratitude of those whom we served was very rewarding!” Ryan Plante, Local 2222 Union Coordinator.
Local 2222 is always looking for ways to give back to the communities that their members reside in. As Local 2222’s Union Coordinator Ryan Plante mentioned, Peel Region is not within the counties that they represent (Grey, Bruce, Huron and Perth), however getting to be part of a Covid-19 initiative was an opportunity they knew they could not pass up
