Winterhawks Victorious in Lucknow

Theo Peckham, Curtis Johnston and Brent MacDermid had three-points each as the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks rolled past the Lucknow Lancers on Saturday night.

The visiting Winterhawks opened the scoring early, with Jamie Shoemaker converting from Greg Thede 3:11 into the game.

Blake Underwood extended the lead to 2-0 before the end of the 1st period, with assists to Curtis Johnston and Peckham.

Fresh off his shootout heroics the previous night, MacDermid added to the lead at 6:14 of the second period, with Adam Blundell assisting on the goal to make it a 3-0 lead.

Peckham made it 4-0 just 44-seconds later, with assists to MacDermid and Lauchlin Elder.

The Lancers got one past Winterhawks goaltender Eric Peicheff at 14:03 of the 2nd, with Colin Bokhout cutting the Winterhawks lead to 4-1.

Johnston answered back less than two minutes later, with Josh Hopkin picking up an assist to make it a 5-1 lead.

Lucknow’s Mitch Kuik cut the lead to 5-2 with less than a minute remaining in the middle frame.

The Lancers again struck in the opening minute of the 3rd period, as Tanner Simpson beat Peicheff to make it 5-3.

That’s as close as Lucknow could get, as Peicheff shut them down the rest of the way, with Andy Fracz delivering the dagger at 17:56, making it 6-3 from MacDermid and Johnston.

Connor Patton finished off the scoring with 22-seconds remaining, with Peckham and Matt Shields picking up assists, arriving at a 7-3 final in favour of the Winterhawks.

The win improves the Winterhawks to 2-0-0 on the season, and a tough task awaits them next.

They will travel to Clinton next Friday night, October 18th, to face off against the defending champion Radars at 8:30 p.m.
