
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has concluded its investigation in relation to a fire incident at a secondary school in Wingham. Police are asking the public to refrain from sharing videos, photos and unconfirmed details related to this incident.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the Huron County OPP and emergency services responded to a fire incident at FE Madill Secondary School that occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. One youth with life-threatening injuries was transported to a hospital, where they remain.
As a result of the extensive investigation, no involvement by additional individuals was identified and no grounds were found to lay criminal charges. Investigators determined that the incident was isolated with no ongoing risk to public safety.
The OPP is aware of unverified information circulating within the community regarding this incident. We recognize the public’s interest and encourage individuals to rely on information from official, verified sources. Before sharing or reposting videos, photos or unconfirmed details, consider the impact that speculation and circulation of such content can have on the youth involved and their loved ones.
The OPP would like to thank those who assisted during the initial incident, as well as all FE Madill Secondary School students and staff for their cooperation and support. The OPP also extends its appreciation to the Avon Maitland District School Board, and our emergency response partners, including the North Huron Fire Department and Huron County Paramedic Services.
