Today, August 29th, was declared Kurtis MacDermid day in Sauble Beach.
It was a day of celebration as thousands lined the streets of the small Lake Huron community of Sauble Beach waiting for the appearance of MacDermid and the Stanley Cup.
The cup was brought to town by NHL defenceman Kurtis MacDermid of the Colorado Avalanche team that won the cup for the 2021-22 season.
MacDermid comes from a family of hockey players as his father is former NHL player Paul MacDermid and his older brother, Lane also played in the NHL with the Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames.
MacDermid was raised in Sauble Beach and first played junior hockey with the Owen Sound Greys in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. He was selected in the 2010 OHL Priority Draft by the Owen Sound Attack and later made his debut in the Ontario Hockey League with the Attack in the 2011–12 season. He then signed as an undrafted free agent to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings on September 13, 2012.
Today (August 29th), when he returned to Sauble Beach, he said, “This is where all my dreams began.”
