On February 4th at 2:00 p.m., everyone is invited to a special presentation at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre as Black History Month begins. The special event will take place in the Bruce Power Theatre with refreshments to follow and will be live-streamed on Facebook for those unable to attend.
Guests Aly Boltman, local historian, and Dorothy Abbott, of the Grey County Black Heritage Society, and whose family escaped via the underground railroad circa 1850, will guide you through the work that led to the recognition of more than 1,200 people buried in unmarked graves in Owen Sound’s Potter’s Field.
Many of those who were fleeing slavery in the United States, arrived in Owen Sound, the northernmost terminus of the Underground Railway.
Potter’s Field project has won five awards including the Architectural Ontario Conservancy Heritage Award.
