County turns down request for County-wide police service

At its April meeting, Bruce County Council considered a request from the Town of South Bruce Peninsula stating that  “The Town of South Bruce Peninsula would like Bruce County to consider becoming responsible for the policing function which could mean a reduction in
policing costs to some municipalities and a consistent police service throughout Bruce
County”.

South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson said that it “… all comes down to dollars and cents.”

After discussing the request, Council passed the following resolution:  “That the Town of
South Bruce Peninsula be advised that the County of Bruce will not review a County-Wide Police Service”.

Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau said that Saugeen Shores had its own police service but would be amenable to discussions with other policing services.  “We do work with the OPP in many instances and we are open to working together to improve policing in communities.
