Donations help Women’s House on the road to its annual goal

The Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey in Kincardine received a donation from McDougall Energy Inc. of $7,500 on Wednesday, December 4th.

The donation will support programs and services that help run the shelter and provide a safe haven for victims and survivors in the region, which served nearly 1,000 individuals in 2017/18.

Women’s House is an organization dedicated to ending violence against women. Through education and outreach, Women’s House strives to help build a community where all people are respected, safe, and valued. It provides services within supportive environments to women sixteen (16) years of age and older, and their children, who have experienced abuse, sexual violence, and homelessness.

“Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey is extremely thankful for the generosity of McDougall Energy,” said Michelle Lamont, Community and Fund Development Coordinator, Women’s House. “Their support will help us to continue to provide the vital programs and services that help to improve the lives of the women and children that knock on our doors every day.”

Women’s House has seen a positive impact as a result of the programs offered. During the last fiscal year (2017/18), Women’s House served 783 individual women and 194 individual children, and responded to 8,602 crisis, support, and advocacy calls. Women’s House operates a shelter with a Crisis Counselor on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; offers Transition and Housing Support, Outreach Counselling, Child Witness support, Sexual Assault Counselling, and Second Stage Housing.

Women’s House also received a donation from Unifor for $2,000.
