Exploring our Future as a Community

Bruce County is undertaking a community engagement project, entitled “Bruce GPS”. The initiative will
encourage those who live, work and visit to share their thoughts and help guide the future growth and development of Bruce County’s Official Plan.

The County is hosting a free event entitled, “Exploring our Future as a Community” to kick-off the
project.

Announcing the project and kick-off event, Warden Paul Eagleson said “this is a great opportunity for everyone to share their feedback and identify our community priorities for the future.”

Just like the GPS in a car or smartphone, Bruce County is developing its own “Bruce GPS” to guide us
as we grow. Bruce GPS is being led by the Planning and Economic Development Department, who will
be engaging in community outreach across the County.

In 2019, following the completion of this community engagement project, Bruce County will begin work on a new 20-year plan.

The kick-off event will feature Shawn Kanungo, a well-known strategist, who will discuss the rapidly
changing demographic, societal, economic, and technological trends, and help to make sense of what
these trends mean to us as a community.

Kara Van Myall, Director of Planning & Economic Development explains that, “A new Official Plan is
needed to guide growth and development in Bruce County. The previous plan was completed before
smartphones, electric cars, and social media. A lot has changed since then. It is now time to renew
our plan so that Bruce County remains an exciting place to explore and discover.”
