Hockey Hub partners team up with ArcelorMittal Dofasco for Hamilton COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic

ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Canada’s largest flat roll steel producer has set up a COVID-19 community vaccine clinic in Hamilton, Ontario where Bruce Power and a coalition of organizations will donate $20,000 to support the operating costs of the clinic.

“The project is a partnership between Hamilton Public Health Services, the Government of Ontario and ArcelorMittal Dofasco,” said Sean Donnelly, ArcelorMittal Dofasco President and CEO. “We indicated our desire to launch an employer-led clinic early in the process and we are pleased that it has come to fruition. When it was time to actually get the clinic ready, our employees stepped up to deliver, while Bruce Power and the partner organizations were quick to express their desire to help. We are grateful to all of our partners who helped to make this a reality.

“Now it’s about encouraging our employees and the community to get immunized so that we can continue to re-open the city and province safely. A large-scale clinic in this part of the city which has two hot spot postal codes is critical to that.”

ArcelorMittal Dofasco retrofitted an empty retail outlet into a vaccination clinic that can accommodate approximately 1,000 shots per day. It is located at The Centre on Barton (1211 Barton Street East) and opened to the public on June 21. Appointments can be booked through the provincial booking system.

“It’s incredible to see so many private organizations coming together to provide support for the vaccination effort,” said Marie Nash, Chief Operating Officer, Hamilton Chamber of Commerce. “What these organizations have been able to accomplish is truly amazing.”

In early May, Bruce Power brought together a coalition of businesses, unions and organizations who provided support to bring the Hockey Hub vaccination model – developed by Dr. Ian Arra, Medical Officer of Health at the Grey Bruce Health Unit – to communities across Ontario. These partners helped to establish one of Ontario’s largest vaccination centres at the CAA Centre in Brampton, and are providing support in vaccination efforts across the province.

“E. S. Fox Limited is committed to work with Bruce Power, other businesses, unions and organizations to support the vaccination efforts within the province,” said Terry Armstrong, VP Nuclear, E.S. Fox Limited. “Quick delivery of vaccines is instrumental in fighting this pandemic as we continue to work together to rebuild our economy.”

“The Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) is proud to partner with Bruce Power and a coalition of community organizations to strengthen allocation and protect our communities in the collective response to the pandemic,” said Joseph Mancinelli, LiUNA International Vice President and Regional Manager for Central and Eastern Canada. “By increasing accessibility through the expansion of immunization clinics, we continue to take an optimistic step forward to reopening the economy while ensuring the health and safety of Ontarians remains priority.”

The Ontario Hockey Hub partners who came together to support vaccination efforts across the province include:

Pat Dalzell, Bruce Power’s Head of Corporate Affairs, said Bruce Power is proud to work alongside these partner organizations and public health to help put an end to the pandemic.

“Together with the partner organizations, we have brought the Hockey Hub vaccination model to communities across Ontario, and supported vaccination efforts across the province,” said Dalzell. “Bruce Power is proud to partner with these organizations and offer our resources, experience and logistical expertise to support the vaccination effort in any way we can.”
