The Huron-Bruce Provincial Liberal Association has officially announced the nomination of Shelley Blackmore as the Liberal Party of Ontario candidate for the riding of Huron-Bruce.
In a virtual nomination meeting held on Saturday, June 5th, with Ontario Liberal Leader, Steven Del Duca in attendance, Blackmore was acclaimed to the position.
“Politics and public office,” Blackmore says, “are all about service to the community, and the interests of the riding. It’s my job to see to it that government policy ensures the communities of Huron-Bruce have their needs met from cradle to grave.”
To Blackmore, this means a comprehensive scope of services, ranging from affordable childcare, a robust public education system, well-funded medical and mental health care, supports for innovation and small business, and a safe and dignified long-term care system.
As a long-time resident of Huron-Bruce – Shelley and her family have lived in Howick Township for over two decades – she understands the needs and interests of the communities. Shelley has been an active volunteer in the region for many years, including time serving on the Board of Directors of the Huron Perth Centre for Youth and Children, and as Chair of the North Perth Community Committee, championing the development of a Social Services Hub in North Perth.
Even before her extensive work volunteering in Huron-Bruce, Blackmore gave over 30 years of service to the betterment of Ontario’s youth. First with the Perth County District School Board, as a teacher, and then as a principal with the Avon Maitland District School Board. She is passionate about education and youth, and brings a wealth of experience and wisdom from the field.
“Shelley is the strong advocate that Huron-Bruce needs, and understands the importance of improving our education system to give our children the best possible start in life,” said OLP Leader Steven Del Duca. “She will be an excellent voice for her community at Queen’s Park, and I’m glad to have her on our team.”
Huron-Bruce Provincial Liberal Association President Ian Burbidge agreed, saying “We’re very excited to have Shelley as our candidate, and she is going to be a great representative for Huron-Bruce. Shelley looks forward to speaking with members of the community about the issues that matter to them, and serving Huron-Bruce as your next Liberal MPP.”
