Huron Fringe Birding Festival closing with release of new birding guide by author Mike Pickup

The latest birding book by renowned birding author, Mike Pickup of Southampton, is set for release tomorrow, Sunday June 4th, during the closing day of the Huron Fringe Birding Festival at MacGregor Point Provincial Park.

Long-time mentor of beginner and more experienced birders, he has written four previous guides to where and when to find feathered visitors. Now, his focus is at Inverhuron Provincial Park.

Mike will be at the headquarters for the Festival at the Visitor Centre in MacGregor Point Provincial Park, a few kilometres south of Port Elgin, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. He will gladly autograph copies of this new book, published by The Brucedale Press and his previous books will also be available, with a portion of all sales donated to the Friends of MacGregor.

About the book:

With a centuries-long history of human occupation, the site of Inverhuron Provincial Park now offers trails that visit a former settler’s farm, the river that attracted Indigenous fishers, and a pioneer-era cemetery. Campers and day visitors come for the beach, the nature-centred programs, and the campsites where they can observe a wide variety of birds and other wildlife throughout the park.

As in his previous books, Birding Inverhuron includes sketch maps, a checklist of birds you might see in the varied habitats, and suggestions for other nearby places to explore. Clear travel directions to Inverhuron from Kincardine or Port Elgin offer info on driving or riding the cycling trails connecting the birding sites to both communities.

Coil-bound for easy carrying in pocket or backpack, Birding Inverhuron has colour photographs by Bob Taylor on its cover and retails for $10.00. For further information, e-mail or call 519-832-6025 anytime.
