Huron Heights has big goals to have a new playground for the over 300 students to enjoy by fall 2024.
Huron Heights hopes to hit their financial goal by January 2024 in order to have the playground installed by fall 2024. With a committee comprised of teachers and parents, fundraising efforts began in September 2022.
With the help of the students, teachers and parents, Huron Heights has hosted movie nights, sold popcorn bags, a Christmas bake sale and a music event sponsored by Bar Down. The committee has raised $10,000 in five months.
Huron Heights will be planning a few community events to help with this large fundraising goal, as well as in-school fundraisers.
Principal Kim Tolton said, “Our priority is making sure we’re able to provide our students with the tools they need to learn and grow both inside and outside the classroom. Our current playground structure is outdated and does not meet the standard for an inclusive space for all students”.
In January, the Huron Heights Home and School Association donated $20,000 to the playground fundraising efforts.
“As we grow in student population so does the need for our playground to expand and improve so it can be inclusive for everyone,” said Christie Anderson, President of Home & School, “Home & School members are committed to helping the Playground Revitalization Committee financially to bettering the future outdoor space for our children. Our goal is to obtain the best for each student and that is not always in the classroom”.
The Kincardine public school is almost halfway to their goal and feeling positive about their Fall 2024 goal to have a new and inclusive playground for the current and incoming students.
To continue the community events Huron Heights will be hosting a Mother’s Day Market on April 22nd from 10:00am-3:00pm. The Vendors are already full, and entry is by donation with amazing door prizes to be won! There will be a refreshment table and raffle basket station created by Huron Heights students as well.
