Kincardine mourns loss of Deputy Mayor

The Municipality of Kincardine is mourning the loss of our beloved Deputy Mayor, Marie Wilson. Marie was elected to Kincardine Council in 2018 and was appointed as Deputy Mayor after receiving the highest number of votes in the At Large race.

Mayor Eadie has provided the following statement:

As Mayor and on behalf of our Council and staff, I extend our deepest sympathy to the Battler and Wilson families on the sudden loss of their beloved family member Marie.

I first met Marie through her work in the nuclear industry at meetings and conferences and enjoyed her friendship over that time.

In 2018, Marie decided to run for Councillor at large to serve her community in another way after her retirement. She worked on her campaign with great enthusiasm, travelling all over the municipality visiting as many residents as possible. She was thrilled to be chosen by the voters to be Deputy Mayor. She had many talents to serve on Council from her newspaper and OPG days as well as her various life experiences as a wife, mother, friend, business partner and community supporter.

We will really miss Marie’s commitment and unique perspective on our Council but most of all, we will miss her as our friend and loyal supporter of our community. It has been a privilege for all of us to know Marie Wilson.”

The regularly scheduled Council meeting for October 19, 2020 at 5 p.m., has been cancelled in order to honour and respect Marie’s memory and to give Council and Staff time to grieve. This meeting will be rescheduled at a future date.
