Reader urges Bruce Power to come back to the table

To the Editor:

I am writing about the story published last week where Southampton misses out on an “exciting global opportunity”.

I am disappointed in this result as I am sure many residents of Saugeen Shores are. Surely, there is room to negotiate a deal that would make all citizens happy.

I love the idea of this facility in Southampton, but like many people I thought it was in the wrong location. The museum and cultural centre seems to be a must have for this building. However, since there is only one museum in Bruce county your options are certainly limited.

I am sure there is plenty of available space on land that is suitable for this structure and would only be a short distance from the museum, which seems to be the sticking point.

I think it is great however, that Bruce Power listened and realized that this is not what the people of Southampton wanted. But what I really believe is we do not want it at that location. Come back to the table and work out a new location.

I am sure I speak for the majority of Southamptonites when I say we are in favour of development but it needs to be in the right location.
