The Rural Medicine Retreat Grey Bruce is set to begin today, August 25th, in the Municipality of Kincardine. The three-day event sees 20 physicians and their families visiting the community.
“It’s a rotating event hosted by Grey Bruce Physician Recruiters annually,” said Chrystel Murphy. “We’re very excited that the Municipality of Kincardine is hosting such an incredible event. It’s an excellent way to showcase our community and recruit physicians to the area.”
During their time here, they’re invited to experience activities that make Grey and Bruce County home a desirable place to call home. Plans include camping in Inverhuron Provincial Park, yoga, a beach day with surf lessons, paddleboarding, a fish fry, and a trivia night at Grey Matter Beer Company.
Mayor Kenneth Craig is also on deck to help with the event, and the group will also attend the mass drum and pipe band performance during this weekend’s Gathering of the Bands, a community favourite event.
Above all, the retreat aims to provide physicians interested in rural medicine an opportunity to meet with potential colleagues, make connections, and find out more about the region.
“As a recruiter, it’s never just a physician you’re recruiting, but their families as well. It’s why we invite physicians, residents, medical students, and their loved ones to join us for events like this retreat. We’re excited to get to know them as individuals and show them why we love calling this area home ourselves,” enthused Murphy.
The 2023 Rural Medicine Retreat Grey Bruce is a collaborative project between the physician recruiters and made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Bruce Power, NWMO, and Howick Mutual Insurance company.
Last year’s event was in Walkerton and Owen Sound will be welcoming attendees in 2024. Recruiters from the Municipality of Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Owen Sound, Hanover, Chesley, Durham, Walkerton, Teeswater, and the Town of South Grey Bruce Peninsula are participating in this year’s event.
