Rural vs Urban: when it comes to election time

A recent edition by Global News focused on rural Ontario and the two main parties, the PCs and the Liberals.

MP Larry Miller

Liberal Candidate Allan Thompson

MP Larry Miller of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, about to retire, and Liberal Candidate for Huron-Bruce, Allan Thompson, agree on one thing – rural concerns are not always heard “in the corridors of power.”

Both say they realize that rural ridings do not make a significant difference when it comes to voting simply because the numbers are in urban centres.

Thompson however, says he doesn’t think a government can effectively do its job ” … if it is not hearing from the 25 per cent of Canadians who live in rural communities.”

Miller’s outgoing advice on retirement is ” … don’t forget where you came from.”
