Society of United Professionals makes generous donation to The Women’s Centre

The Women’s Centre would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the Society of United Professionals (Society) for their generosity.  The Society has donated $10,000 to The Women’s Centre to help bridge the government funding shortfall so that they can continue to provide safe shelter, second stage housing and resources to women and children escaping domestic violence.

The Society of United Professionals represents close to 1200 members in Grey & Bruce Counties. They have a long history of supporting organizations that provide support for women fleeing abuse as well as working to end violence against women. The current donation to The Women’s Centre Grey & Bruce is part of the Society’s ongoing commitment to addressing the issue.

Sarah Beirnes, Society Unit Director stated, “We are pleased to support The Women’s Centre Grey & Bruce as it’s crucial in our community to have a safe place for women and children who are fleeing domestic violence.”

“We all must play a role in working to end violence against women”, stated Mike Gade, Society Local Vice President. “It is essential that services such as The Women’s Centre Grey & Bruce are fully supported by government and communities to ensure that women have the ability to escape violent situations.”

The Women’s Centre will use the funds to expand our counselling services and group workshops for the women and children both staying in the shelter and at our Second Stage townhomes.

“It is through community support that The Women’s Centre can continue to offer vital support to women throughout Grey & Bruce,” said The Women’s Centre Executive Director, Heather Fowler. “We are extremely appreciative of the Society of United Professionals’ contribution to our shelter and to women throughout the region.”
