Stolen trucks recovered thanks to watchful community and social media

Instead of insurance claims and truck shopping for New Years, two truck owners are thankful for a watchful community and positive use of social media that lead to the return of their trucks.

On Tuesday, December 29th 2020 at 12:44pm, South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began to investigate the theft of a white pick-up truck and a quantity of tools from Huron Street in Ripley. The items and motor vehicle had been stolen earlier that morning.

Word of the theft was reported throughout the community on social media and Police began to receive tips from the watchful and caring community. The tips lead responding officers to the location of the stolen pick-up truck that was stuck in a field just outside of the town. When officers arrived on scene, an individual was taken into custody without incident.

Dylan DUNDAS, 30-years-old, of Huron-Kinloss Township was charged with four counts of Possessing Stolen Property and 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation. The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing and will be appearing, as required, to answer to the charges.

The stolen pick-up truck was recovered, along with stolen tools valued at $10,000 and a second pick-up truck that was reported stolen out of Middlesex County.

The South Bruce OPP appreciates the support of the community with this investigation. These timely tips directly lead to the safe return of stolen property to the rightful owners.
