‘Banding Together’ to help school music programs

The number of musicians who live and perform in Bruce County, whether by profession or in retirement, is nothing short of amazing.

On Saturday, May 4th, the Summer Music Society of Saugeen Shores presented an “out of this world” evening of entertainment at the “Banding Together – May the 4th Be With You” concert.

With admission by donation, ‘Banding Together’ was a joint fundraiser to help maintain and assist with school music programs.

Four musical groups came together to raise money for their local communities for music in schools which is apparently in jeopardy under the current provincial government’s cut-backs.

The bands that performed were the Port Elgin Community Band, Southampton Concert Band, Kincardine Brass Band and Kincardine Lighthouse Swing Band.

Over one hundred local musicians performed a wide variety of musical selections that appealed to every age and every musical taste.

Thanks to donations at the door, each of the bands received some $750 that will be contributed to their local community school music programs.
