Big Night for MacLean as Winterhawks Blank Milverton

Miles MacLean had five points as the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks took it to the Milverton Four Wheel Drives on Saturday night.

MacLean scored four times and added an assist, while Jeff Flagler recorded his second-consecutive shutout as the Winterhawks blanked Milverton, 6-0.

MacLean opened the scoring late in the 1st period, converting with just 19-seconds remaining, with assists to Blake Underwood and Lauchlin Elder.

Elder increased the lead to 2-0 at 6:09 of the 2nd period, with MacLean and Underwood assisting.

MacLean added his second of the night on the power play at 11:57 of the 2nd, with an assist to Mike Rocca.

Milverton had their chances, as the Winterhawks were whistled for four minor penalties in the second half of the 2nd period, but Flagler and the penalty killers kept the Drives at bay.

MacLean notched the hat-trick at 2:04 of the 3rd, beating Milverton netminder Brayden Bruce with an unassisted goal.

Just under two minutes later, Curtis Johnston increased the lead to 5-0, beating Bruce on a goal assisted by Bryan Kazarian and Andy Fracz.

Bruce left the game with an injury just shy of the seven-minute mark of the 3rd, and MacLean greeted replacement Alex Elliott by making it 6-0 less than a minute later, with Kody O’Connor picking up the assist.

Flagler kept the Four Wheel Drives at bay the rest of the night, making it a 6-0 final for Saugeen Shores.

The win improves the Winterhawks record to 12-5-1, keeping pace with the Durham Thundercats for 3rd place in the WOAA Sr. Hockey League, with four games left to play.

The Winterhawks will be back in action on home ice on Friday, January 11th when the Elora Rocks visit The Plex for an 8:30 p.m. start.
