been closed since early March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has since decided that it will continue to keep the facility closed, allowing for the opportunity to conduct an extensive renovation project.

“Our intention is to utilize this time to undertake some upgrades and targeted renovations at one of our busiest external facilities,” said David Abbott, Director, Community and Indigenous Relations. “While we’re disappointed the Visitors’ Centre won’t be open for the very busy summer season, we’re excited about updating the facility to better reflect the innovative work being done by our people and exploiting today’s technology.

“We will be announcing a number of replacement programs to enhance public education of our role in producing nuclear power and medical isotopes in addition to new, virtual educational initiatives.”

The closure affects the Visitors’ Centre’s staff offices, conference rooms, exhibit hall and theatre. The renovations won’t impact the Emergency Management Centre that’s located inside the Visitors’ Centre.

“We appreciated everyone’s patience while these renovations take place and we look forward to sharing our public facility as a world-class destination in 2021,” Abbott said.
