Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to thank those motorists who helped out this past long weekend and called in traffic complaints of drivers who were operating their vehicles in a careless and dangerous manner.
Over the long weekend OPP officers charged 59 drivers with speeding on Highway 6 on the Peninsula and 8 more drivers were charged with stunt driving – 50 kilometres per hour (km/h) or more over the posted speed limit. The speeds of the offenders ranged from 143 km/h to 171 km/h in a posted 80 km/h speed limit zone. The driver’s licences and vehicles were taken from them for 7 days and they received a court date to answer to the charge.
“Grey Bruce officers will continue to enforce the Highway Traffic Act in efforts of keeping Highway 6 safe. The ongoing disregard for the speed limit by some drivers is unacceptable. We have zero tolerance for these types of drivers and will charge them accordingly, and when applicable, remove them and their vehicles from the road,” says Grey Bruce OPP Detachment Commander, Inspector Martin Murray
If you witness a careless or dangerous driver on the road, you are asked to dial 911 and report it.

Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers can thank a Seaforth resident for an arrest made early this morning.
Last night around 11:40 p.m., Huron OPP officers received a call about some suspicious activity taking place in the parking lot of the Seaforth arena located on Duke Street. Police learned the suspect was making trips back and forth to the vehicle with various items and the witness found this to be suspicious.
Officers arrived at the parking lot a short while later whereupon they located the pickup truck and a male suspect sleeping inside the cab.
Upon checking out the vehicle officers learned the vehicle had been reported stolen from Stratford on July 3, 2019. As a result of this, the suspect was placed under arrest and searched. Upon searching the accused officers found the male to be in possession of a stolen health card, break-in tools and a quantity of suspected cocaine.
Further investigation determined the suspect obstructed the officer by not properly identifying himself. Additionally, the suspect was found to be failing to comply with conditions of his probation sentence.
The 34 year old of no fixed address has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
- Possession of Break-in Instruments
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Possession of Identity Document
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 22, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
