Huron Shores Hospice is ready to host its 6th annual Hike for Hospice and, this year, the event will again be celebrated in person.
The hike is being held in celebration of National Palliative Care Week that brings organizations working in hospice palliative care together to raise funds and awareness in their communities.
This year, National Hospice Palliative Care Week runs from May 1-7 and the theme for 2022 is ‘Living in Colour’. At the heart of hospice palliative care lies the belief that every person deserves a vibrant and beautiful life, from beginning to end. If you are facing a life-limiting illness, it can feel like your world is fading to shades of grey – hospice palliative care brings colour, peace, and joy back to your life in the ways that matter most to you and to your family. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of hospice palliative care issues and promote the phenomenal work that all volunteers and professionals in the field perform daily.
Huron Shores Hospice is a charitable not-for-profit, volunteer-driven, community-funded residential hospice, that provides quality end-of-life care, at no cost, to residents of Kincardine, Huron-Kinloss, Saugeen Shores and surrounding areas. This year’s title sponsor is Bruce Power; the media sponsor is Keith Battler and the t-shirt sponsor is Nuclear Promise X (NPX).
Huron Shores Hospice’s two-suite residential hospice located in Tiverton is a community-run hospice. Less than one-third of its budget is funded by the Ministry of Long Term Care and the remainder of the budget must be community funded in order to be able to offer this valuable local service to those needing support with end-of-life care.
Everyone is encouraged to register and raise funds to help sustain local residential hospice care, to hike in memory of someone special or just to hike to help support quality end-of-life care for your friends, family and neighbours.
The Hike will take place on the Kincardine trails, streets or on the outdoor track at the Kincardine Davidson Centre, where registration starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7th.
The Hike will then begin with welcoming remarks and a warm-up at 10:00 a.m. Participants may hike a full 5km through the trails or take a short walk around the outdoor or indoor track at the Davidson Centre.
Following the Hike, the Kincardine Lions Club will be barbequing lunch and there will be activities for the kids and kids-at-heart in addition to prizes for top fundraisers.

All funds support Huron Shores Hospice’s two suites located in Tiverton Park Manor and support giving people the right to die with dignity, in the community in which they live, surrounded by those who love them! 100% of the funds raised stay in our community!
This year, we hope to increase awareness of our residential hospice services and community programs by hosting 200 participants and raising $60,000 to support quality end-of-life care.
Hike for Hospice is about having fun, learning about Huron Shores Hospice, meeting new friends and raising money while creating awareness for Huron Shores Hospice end-of-life care.
