KIPP Trail enters final phase of construction

The 12-kilometer Kincardine to Inverhuron Provincial Park (KIPP) Trail will be complete this summer, after almost 10 years of planning.
The Kincardine Trails Association, formed in 2001, has led the project as a Municipal Committee of Council since their first meeting with Bruce County in October 2012.

Committee Chair Brad Kirkconnell said, “The goal [of the KIPP Trail] was to offer a safe, active transportation route alongside Bruce Road 23 and the lower roads and pathways to Inverhuron, at the same time connecting the municipality.”

The KIPP Trail will be a multi-use paved trail extending from the north edge of the town of Kincardine to Kinhuron Road, along the west side of Bruce Road 23. By connecting the town of Kincardine and Inverhuron Provincial Park, the KIPP trail will close the existing gap in and become a part of the 3,100km Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

“The KIPP Trail will provide healthy, safe, and scenic transportation between all 3 wards in the Municipality of Kincardine,” said Mayor Gerry Glover. “I’d like to thank the Kincardine Trails Association for their tireless work and efforts in raising over $250,000 for this project; the many corporate and individual sponsors who contributed; the Provincial and Federal government for their substantial support; and special thanks to the Society of United Professionals for their generous contribution.”
The Society of United Professionals donated approximately $238,000 to the project, forming its initial seed fund. In 2021, the Municipality was the recipient of an Infrastructure Canada Grant of nearly $800,000 to complete the KIPP Trail.
Many others also contributed to the project including corporations, businesses, organizations, clubs, families, individuals, volunteers, and all three levels of government.
