Huron Shores Hospice cancels Hike for Hospice fundraiser

At Huron Shores Hospice, in doing our part to help our community flatten the curve, we have taken the extraordinary step to cancel our 2020 Hike for Hospice, which was scheduled for May 9th. This is our 2nd largest fundraiser for the year and will result in a loss of revenue of approximately $50,000 for the hospice.

This was a very tough decision to make for an organization that is dependent on community donations for our operating budget. Huron Shores Hospice is in for a tough year of fundraising ahead, along side all the other not-for-profits in our community.

Hike for Hospice scheduled for May 9th, 2020 at the Davidson Centre has also been cancelled to ensure Huron Shores Hospice is doing our part to flatten the curve in our community during the coronavirus.

IMPACT

The cancellation of this event will result in a $50,000 revenue deficit for our community funded hospice. As important as this revenue is to our operational budget, the decision to cancel was made from a framework of compassion and heartfelt concern for the well-being of our community.

WHAT IF I HAVE ALREADY PLEDGED SOMEONE’S WALK?

We ask that all hikers send a copy of their paper pledge sheet to info@huronshoreshospice.ca. A representative from Huron Shores Hospice will then call each person who has made a pledge to discuss how they would like their pledge to be handled. The options will be; either leave the money as a donation to Huron Shores Hospice or have the money fully refunded. On-line donors will be contacted in the same manner.

THANK YOU

Huron Shores Hospice would like to thank all our past Hike for Hospice participants and those who supported their hike. We will be working on creative ways to make up this shortfall in revenue as soon as this unprecedented time in our history is behind us. We are so blessed to operate in a community which has been so generous with donations as well as time devoted to our community hospice. THANK YOU!

HOW IS HURON SHORES HOSPICE RESPONDING DURING THE CORONAVIRUS?

We are taking our lead from Public Health and the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care officials to determine the best way to have our suite remain open, while protecting the safety of everyone. We are adding on-line facilitation for our Grief Recovery Method program and should have a specialist trained by the end of April to deliver on-line Grief Recovery Method facilitation. We have purchased a video-conference platform to help provide a quality connection for family and friends during restrictions of visitors in our hospice suite. We are doing our best to continue to provide this valuable service to our community along with finding creative ways to maintain our services and programs in this new environment.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

If you are in a position to make an extra special donation right now, thank you very much. This can be done through our website at www.huronshoreshospice.ca. An on-line donation can be made right on the front page of our website. If you would rather mail a donation, the address is: Box 242, Tiverton, ON, N0G 2T0. Any donation regardless of size is greatly appreciated. During these extraordinary times when donations are at an

all-time low and fundraisers cannot proceed, any contribution helps. All donations of $20 or more will receive a tax receipt.

We are so enormously proud of our role in the community and our dedication to providing a compassionate, caring and dignified support to those who are dying in our community and their families. As we continue to keep up to date with the Coronavirus, the hearts of Huron Shores Hospice are working to ensure we continue to provide quality end-of-life care to the residents of south Bruce County.
